WAR 1914-1918. Manuscript, Letter of the War 1914-1918; 17 pages and a half in-fol. of a large cardboard notebook with black cloth spine and corners (the rest blank).
Copy of an applied handwriting of 26 letters (the 27th unfinished) written by the soldier "Auguste" to his wife Berthe in Vidalon in the Ardèche, from August 15, 1914 to January 18, 1915. He tells of the first battles, the first French victories, and then the war. He shows a beautiful patriotism, reassures her constantly, etc. We will quote only a short excerpt: "Rupt, December 7 [...] I could show you something terrible since October 4, nearly 200 Krauts are lying on the plain in front of us with binoculars, their bodies are clearly visible. They have been there for 2 months without anyone being able to go and get them to bury them, because the first one who shows up outside the trench is mercilessly shot. Fortunately it is not summer because it would be an infection"... On December 17, he rejoices: ... "it seems that we must send them [...] 600 to 800 shells. We are going to have broken ears, but it gives my infantrymen so much pleasure that we help them a little"...
