Louis de France, duke of BOURGOGNE (1682-1712)... - Lot 264 - Ader
Louis de France, duke of BOURGOGNE (1682-1712) Dauphin of France, grandson of Louis XIV, father of Louis XV. Autograph manuscript and 3 L.A.S., 1693-1706; 4 pages small in-4 and 3 pages in-8 and 1 page in-4. Nice set of 4 documents. [December 29, 1693]. Very interesting and curious manuscript, " Dialogue de Mr de L'echelle Mr de Bourgogne Mr Moreau Mr de Fénelon Mr de Langeron et Mr de Saumery ". Amusing little dialogue written by the young duke at the age of eleven, featuring his close court: himself, his tutor Fénelon, who wants to start a reading, the abbot de Langeron his reader, summoned to start, the count de Saumery (deputy governor), his first valet Moreau and Mr de l'Echelle (gentleman of the Manche)... Camp of Densbruck June 29, 1702. To M. de Torcy, during the campaign of Flanders where he commands the royal army. He does not doubt that his correspondent will take "a lot of part in this cy affair for the public good first and also for my interest". He does not dare yet to flatter himself of the success of this business, but has good hope since his correspondent gave him "an excellent man for these matters"... - Camp under Brisak, September 13, 1703. Nice letter with envelope to the duke of Guiche who had congratulated him on his bravery at the siege of Brisach, in which he condemns the outrageous and flattering praises towards him from the court of Marly: "Parmy the compliments that I received my dear Guiche, there is none that I received with a better heart than yours, knowing your attachment for me. I was surprised that your letter was only a simple compliment and that you did not speak of anyone. You will be too happy if you see me [...] enraged from afar as well as up close and that the letters are written in the tone of Marly. He will go at the end of the month "to expose me to these new dangers, however, continue to send me news"... Versailles January 25, 1706. Beautiful letter of condolences to his grandmother the duchess of Savoy, relative to the death of the duke of Chablais, with black wax seals with arms and black silk cords. Former collection Marcel Plantevignes (sale December 1st, 1981, n° 79).
