JOSÉPHINE (1761-1814) Empress of the French, first wife of Napoleon. L.A.S., Malmaison July 1 [1812], to her son Prince Eugene; 1 1/4 pages in-4 on embossed paper.

Tender letter to her son.
She wrote to the Emperor "to ask him again his consent to my trip to Italy. The Emperor answered me on June 20, and his letter made me as happy for you as for me, for you have often told me that you would prefer his approval to all the goods in the world; you must be satisfied; the Emperor says to me in his letter 'Eugene is well and behaving well'... She plans to leave for Milan from the 12th to the 15th of this month. She has been suffering from the mood in her head. She finishes tenderly: "Goodbye my dear son, I love you and kiss you tenderly". She assures him, in post-scriptum, that one should not believe that she has taken half a sheet of paper for economy: "I am not yet at this point of perfection, it is simply by misunderstanding".
