Alphabet of the small children. Decorated with 30 engravings. New edition. From Delarue, Bookseller, quai des Augustins, 11, Paris. [About 1845]. Printed by Blocquel-Castiaux. Lille. In-16 (13,2 x 8,5 cm). Stenciled frontispiece, engraved title, 70 pp. burgundy cloth spine, carmine chagrined paper boards (Contemporary boards). Uncommon animal primer. Two colored frontispiece vignettes : L'Oiseau du Bon Dieu and Le Serin and L'Ange gardien des petits enfants, on the reverse of the engraved title, precede the beautifully illustrated alphabet. Upper and lower case at the head, engraving in the center and name at the foot in frames, including the W representing a Woisieu [?] The author completes with pages of alphabets in different scripts, syllabaries, reading in large bodies, division of time, animal calls, notions about man, arithmetic and stories illustrated with woodcuts. The bookseller-publisher François-Marie Delarue (1783-1848) was a collaborator and distributor of the productions of his brother-in-law from Lille, Simon-François Blocquel, and of the latter's associate, Jean Baptiste Castiaux, from 1818 to his death, and was established at Quai des augustins n° 11 from 1821 to 1846. No other copy referenced. Paper very slightly browned, small corner missing on the last leaf and minimal wear and tear to the binding.
