Mythological alphabet. Lith : Durand, Ligny... - Lot 53 - Ader
Mythological alphabet. Lith : Durand, Ligny Jne et Cie. Rue Salle-au-Comte 10 [Paris. ca. 1850]. (14 x 10,6 cm). Leporello of (24) black lithographed flaps: publisher's pale gray cloth paper boards with cold-stamped flower motifs, illustrated lithograph, bearing the title, applied to the first board, the god Pan reclining in an undergrowth. Twenty-four finely engraved plates. Scenes from mythology captioned by the name of the deity underlined by a sentence in cursive writing describing the scene. No I or W, as issued. The initial appears at the foot, on the left. From Aurora, abducting Cephalus, to Zephyr, son of Aurora. Rare illustration with large and fine engravings of talent, unsigned, very different from contemporary works. A copy in its contemporary cardboard with rubbing, mainly on the second mute board, a crack between the first two flaps and old restoration between the O and the P, on the reverse.
