Children's album. Amédée Bédelet, bookseller-publisher. 14, rue Pavée-Saint-André-des-arts. Paris. [1863]. In-8 (26,2 x 17,5 cm). 48 pp. [misfigured 84], 6 plates : publisher's album, spine in midnight blue percaline, yellow boards, the first one richly decorated in green, red and black and enhanced with gold (Coudert Lith. Imp. Lemercier).
The first part of the work, divided into seventeen exercises, is illustrated with six plates out of text lithographed in two tones. The second part is a delicate primer of games.
Each page is illustrated with a vignette, engraved at the top of the page in an ornate frame, showing children at play. This one is underlined by a text of first reading in big characters relating to the illustrated activity: Bow, Bubbles of soap, Colin-Maillard, Dance, etc.
Uncommon alphabet book. Some foxing.

Various alphabets, ornamented letters, alphabet of animals in pictures, syllabary and a short reading to spell by letter, each illustrated with an engraving bearing the initial in black. This is followed by an alphabet illustrated with fine mid-page compositions by the artists mentioned in the title. They form the necessary learning to read the Fables of La Fontaine illustrated with eighteen compositions by Grandville (1803-1847).
Covers and corners slightly rubbed, stain on the first cover, small angular lack on page 39, without affecting the text, first flyleaf missing.

Alphabet of flowers. Two plates after drawings by Noël Eugène Sotain (1816-1874) and twenty-five plates of flowers (without the W), all stenciled. A text referring to the plant, on the left, and captioned illustration, on the right. Alphabets and syllables complete the book.
