Fifty tavole alfabetiche. Che formano un... - Lot 65 - Ader
Fifty tavole alfabetiche. Che formano un corso di calligraphia interessante a qualunque classe di persone. [Forming an attractive calligraphy course for any class of people]. Sold from Zecchi in Bologna, Via Asse. [About 1845]. (14,5 x 40 cm). 50 plates engraved on the front: carmine half-percaline, marbled paper boards imitating basane. (Binding of the time). Important collection of fifty plates engraved with burin by different artists. The work begins with a method of writing with nibs, plates of Italian, Gothic, German alphabets, words and numbers and an alphabet with capital letters placed on a background and underlined with alphabets or calligraphic texts. These plates were designed by Carlo Lenzi and engraved by Giuseppe Lanzani. Then from plate twenty-three, begins an illustrated alphabet book with two large initials (including the W, the double letters and the ampersand) as part of a decoration, many of which are from French plates signed by Victor Adam. Without captions, the initials are underlined by a text or a line of alphabet. In the same layout, numbers follow up to twelve. Prayers and commandments precede a page of signs for merchants and trade. Rare and complete set, engraved on a strong paper. Scattered foxing, most pronounced on the title leaf and edges. Rubbing from use to the binding. Small wet stamp with the name of an old provenance on the title: "O. Avanzini".
