Small in-8 (17,5 x 10,5 cm). Engraved and colored frontispiece, engraved title, 7, (1) pp. (68) plates [i.e. 34 ff.] : modern paper covered boards, title Abc on spine. Beautiful German alphabet book in period colors. As the title page states: "Entertaining manual for children to help them learn the Abc, spelling, reading and writing in both German and Latin. And to make it more enjoyable, adorn it with iconic engravings with explanations in four different languages." Sixty-eight finely copperplate engraved and hand-colored plates including two ornate titles separating the plates into two parts. Each plate is divided into six rectangles, each with an engraving captioned in German, cursive (Sütterlin) and Gothic script, Latin, Italian and French. (Except two plates on animals and birds, one in four vertical bands, and captioned only in German). Characters, animals, objects, elements of nature and architecture are depicted with the legend also engraved on copperplate. The captions do not follow any alphabetical order. Very beautiful and rare imagier where the printing and the setting in colors was carried out on a face of the sheets, those were, thereafter, stuck two to two. Well preserved with very beautiful period colors. Frontispiece glued to the first flyleaf.
