In-16 (12,7 x 10,2 cm). 16 pp. half calf, four-ribbed spine, marbled paper boards (early 19th century binding). Very rare revolutionary primer. Learning to read and instruction of the young citizen. Two "Chansons du Papa ou de la Maman à l'Enfant qui lira bien" to be sung on the tune of the "Carmagnole". Upper and lower case alphabets, ornamented, and syllabary, precede amusing first reading exercises, The Ten Commandments of the French Republic, The Six Commandments of Liberty, Religion, Division of Time, The Months of the Year [from Vendémiaire to Fructidor], Numbers, What Makes Up a Republic [list in degressive order beginning with The Nation or The People and ending with The Children] and the Republican Oath: "We promise, as Republicans, that we will exterminate all tyrants, all despots coalesced against our holy liberty..." Well preserved copy.
