ADAM (Victor). Charades [alphabetical]. At Aubert. Gal. Véro-Dodat. [About 1850]. Large oblong in-4 (26,8 x 34 cm). (25) lithographed plates, colored and gummed : half calf blue, moiré percaline boards with rich gilt decoration in the center, double gilt fillet in the frame, smooth spine decorated with a large gilt roulette (Period binding). Rare edition, hand-colored and enhanced with gum arabic, realized by Aubert, of the lithographs by Victor Adam (1801-1867). Three illustrations per letter, with extreme fine detail, in an ornate frame bearing the initial in a decoration. The first two illustrations correspond to one syllable each, the third to the word to be guessed in its entirety. Without the first title leaf bearing the solution of the charades. On some plates, Aubert has not erased the name of Bance, nor replaced lith. de Benard et Frey by Imp. d'Aubert & Cie. Colored edition intended for export to England and America with the mentions of the publishers Ch.Tilt in London and Bailly Ward & Co in New York. Minimal rubbing on the edges.
