(20) lithographed plates in black : publisher's vermilion chagrined paper boards, red cloth spine, boards with framing fillets and cold corner fleurons, title stamped and gilt on the first. Alphabet entirely lithographed in black after A. Coppin. Printed in recto, each page is dedicated to a letter and illustrated with twenty-five captioned vignettes. (Only one plate for J, K and U, V, X, Y, Z.). A title page, with remarkable finesse and composition, gathers around the title a number of characters and objects appearing in the following plates. After the imperial eagle of the A, the emperor for the E, looks like Napoleon. First edition published by Martinet. Nice and uncommon alphabet. Spine formerly renewed, restored cracks in the margins of a few leaves.
