CORON (Beatrice). Alphabet Animal. French-English.... - Lot 146 - Ader
CORON (Beatrice). Alphabet Animal. French-English. English-French. Number 9/15. Béatrice Coron. NYC. 2001. Square cardboard box (15 x 14 x 14.5 cm), opening with a double flap, covered with grey cloth, bearing the title on the cover and the letters A, B, C, D, on the four sides, in red stencil. It contains 1 f. of title in capital letters in red stencil, numbered and signed, and (26) double ff. with applied black cut-outs (12,7 x 12,7 cm). Unique small artist's edition by Béatrice Coron, born in 1956. Raised in France, she lived in Taiwan, Mexico, Egypt... and started her dazzling artistic career in New York in 1984. Famous for her creations in cut paper, she also works, since 2003, on public art commissions and her works appear in the greatest museums. One animal per letter with the same name in French and English. On each double sheet, she places, at the top, a sheet of thin black paper hollowed out in the shape of the animal, on the reverse, a large red initial, the first letter of the name that underlines it and, on the third page, the cut-out animal accompanied by a gray shadow in watercolor. The artist explains, "The silhouettes use the fullness and emptiness between the outside and inside of the card, a play that mirrors the linguistic planes." From Alligator to Zebu, limited edition of 15, #9. Extremely rare early work by an artist now recognized worldwide. Primer and box, also made by Beatrice Coron, perfectly preserved.
