Brussels. [1933]. In-4 (27 x 21,2 cm). 36, (2) pp : orange paper covers printed in black. First edition of the surrealist Alphabet of Mesens (1903-1971). Musician of formation, Satie introduced him to Man Ray, he will befriend all the Parisian surrealists and will occupy a central place in the Belgian surrealist group. Artist, writer, gallery owner, publisher, Mesens made his first collages and photomontages in 1924. Settled in London in 1938, he took an active part in the BBC's war broadcasts and invented the famous "Radio-Paris lies, Radio-Paris is German." A solarized photomontage in frontispiece and 26 surrealist poems each beginning with a huge initial attached to the verses. The editions Flamel had been created by Mesens in 1933. Limited edition of 513 copies, one of 500 on vellum after III Japon and 10 Hollande, n° 169. Long handwritten letter to the poet Mélot du Dy (1891-1956). Well preserved with a uniformly faded spine and a few pale freckles.
