Strasbourg. 1834. 1835. / Specimen of the Modern Scriptures including the Roman, Fleuronnées, Gothic new, Fractures, French, English, Italian and German, executed with the pen by Jean Midolle. Engraved on stone and published at the Lithography of Fc. Emile Simon fils. Strasbourg. 1834. 1835. Fort in-folio (40 x 30 cm). General title, 40 plates / 40 plates, titles included, for the last two works : posterior binding of light green cloth. Complete treatise of writings of all kinds, realized by Jean Midolle (1794-18 ?), artist, writer and calligrapher. A titanic inventory, entirely lithographed in black (three plates with color), from his virtuoso pen drawings. Numbered plates under serpents in the three works. The first one lists the oriental and occidental writings. The second volume is a meeting of compositions mixing interlacing, drawings, letters and texts. Many plates are dedicated to Napoleon, religion and writers. The last volume includes alphabets and text models in the different scripts mentioned in the title, illustrated primers, "midolline" letters, fancy alphabets, various numbers, and ends with the diabolic alphabet. Very rare and complete set. Faint foxing on the first two leaves and more pronounced on the last. Marginal staining on one plate. Binding of cloth soiled.
