PILLE (Henri). Alphabet. [Continuation of the engravings]. Engraved by A. Prunaire after H. Pille. No address, no place, no date. [Paris. 1880]. In-4 (27,5 x 21 cm). 50 plates engraved on China paper [one on Japan paper] : blue half-cornered parchment, marbled paper boards (Emile Carayon). Complete suite in two states, black and sanguine, on China paper [the cover on China and Japan in sanguine] of an alphabet of ornate letters drawn by the painter and illustrator Charles-Henri Pille (1844-1897) and engraved by Alfred Prunaire (1837-1912). Large initials decorated with interlacing accompanied by characters (trades and peoples), animals and objects representing the occurrences of the letter (I, J on the same, no W). Woodcuts for the book published by A. Lemerre éditeur in November 1880. Rare copy very well preserved, only two of the plates have some foxing.
