POTEMKINA (V.). - Lot 290
POTEMKINA (V.). Pestraya Azbouka. [Colorful Alphabet]. [I. D. Sytin Publishing House. Moscow]. 1904. In-4 (25 x 21,2 cm). (32) pp.: publisher's album, carmine percaline spine, lithographed boards in colors, title calligraphied on a pale gray pavement, framed on two sides with a young pig keeper playing the flute, on the first, rows of dolls, front and back, at the head and foot of the second, gray background. Rare Russian primer and unique edition of a bibliophile work, however published by a publisher known for his numerous publications: Ivan Dmitrievitch Sytin (1851-1934), famous entrepreneur and major publisher of pre-revolutionary Russia. Title page in letters drawn between bands of ducks on waves of wavy lines, twenty-nine stylized compositions, colored in blocks integrated into the text. Fine and simple lithographs with renewed compositions, an "Art nouveau" that seems drawn by a young artist. Its characters and its compositions of repeated motives are very innovative for the time. No copy of this work, graphically accomplished, is referenced. A little rubbing on the first board and the cuts, some stains on the second board.
