TIJTGAT (Edgard).
Little Red Riding Hood.
A tale by Perrault. Drawn and engraved by Edgard Tijtgat. Cyril Beaumont. London. 1918. Small in-4 (26 x 19,4 cm). (21) double ff., (16) plates on china engraved in color: bound in Japanese style with a green cordon, white paper boards illustrated in color with linoleum engravings, endpapers and spine, illustrated with the same floral design in color, woodcut.

Extremely rare "definitive" London edition by the painter Edgard Tijtgat (1879-1957).
Fascinating double engravings composed of bistre plates on which are inset sixteen plates on China paper in colors. Red Riding Hood entirely engraved on wood and linoleum. Printed by the artist on his hand press, as indicated by the last engraving of the print. Natural naivety of the artist. Text engraved on wood, additional vignette in bistre engraved at the head of the book.
Confidential edition limited to 50 copies. One of 40 copies on antique paper, n° 20, after 10 copies on China paper.
One of the most beautiful modern illustrations of the tale. Mythical and fabulous work, even more desirable in such a perfect condition with just a small restoration at the foot and head of the spine. Minimal discharges usual of linoleum engravings on the text placed opposite.
