GASTON SUISSE (1896-1988) Solange the Chimpanzee, ca. 1940 Pencil on bistre paper. Sold in a marie-louise and with a modern frame and gold leaf. Signed G. SUISSE in the lower right corner. Work alone at sight : 18 x 20 cm - With frame : 37,5 x 39,5 cm History: This drawing was made at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris around 1940. At that time, the artists had a star that they nicknamed Solange, this particularly facetious monkey had understood what was expected of her and as soon as she saw an artist deploying his paraphernalia, she would strike a pose according to her mood of the moment. Gaston Suisse made many studies of her. Exhibition : Gaston Suisse - Le bestiaire - Musée AG Poulain, Ville de Vernon, from January 15th to March 19th 2000.
