Bowl with feline decoration and pitcher, Eastern Samanid Iran, Nishapur, 10th century
Engobed clay ceramic with underglaze painted decoration. The bowl, with its carinated body on a small circular foot, is painted in black fused with yellow with a spotted feline held in place by a multi-link chain; the jug, with its globular body topped by a wide cylindrical neck with a flared lip connected to the body by a curved handle, is painted in black and brown under a yellow glaze with vertical lines and dotted lines.

Bowl badly restored, major chips on the pitcher
The bowl belongs to the "yellow staining black" group known from Nishapur productions. Like the previous piece, it has a counterpart in the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (inv. 1959. Ea 9) of identical form with the same decoration of a speckled feline with attached neck.
