Poetic collection, Kashmir, 19th century Incomplete oblong manuscript on paper inscribed with six lines of oblique text in two columns in Persian nasta'liq in black ink, some terms and author's names in red ink. The text mainly comprises the story of Shaikh Sana'an from the Conference of Birds by Farid-ud Din 'Attar (1145-1221), as well as verses by various authors such as Hafez and Sa'adi. Text illustrated with six gouache paintings including Khosrow surprising Shirin at Nizami's bath and several scenes from the history of Shaikh Sana'an, notably his love affairs or Sana'an tending his pigs. Rough brown leather binding embossed with a mandorla and two cartouches decorated with vegetal scrolls. Binding size: 9.7 x 17.2 cm Binding plate missing, major accidents, as is.
