Large jambiyya dagger, Iran qâjâr, 19th century Curved damascus steel blade chased on the heel with a fawn devouring a gazelle. Walrus ivory handle carved on one side with a rider slaying a dragon, watched by two angels holding a crescent moon. On the other, two men holding a ring with a ribbon in front of two wrestlers. Both scenes are framed by two cartouches inscribed with poetic verses in Persian nasta'liq for the first and two vegetal bands with lotus flowers for the second. The inscription reads "The curved dagger in the hand of the dominant prince, is like a crescent [moon] in the hand of the sun". The sides are decorated with a carved figure in an oval medallion.
