Three dated siyah mashq calligraphy exercises in monumental script, Iran, 19th century Calligraphies on paper of several lines, mainly oblique, of Persian text in broad nasta'liq calligraphy in black ink in reserve on a gold background sprinkled with polychrome flowers on two of them. Mounted as album pages on card and surrounded by several colored borders. The first siyah mashq signed and dated 1862, text of nine monumental main lines in gold-powdered reserves over a semiset of florets, an inscription at bottom left in small characters giving the name of calligrapher Mirza [Agha?] Shirazi and the date 1279 H/1862; the second, dated 1824, several multidirectional lines of monumental text in reserves on a gold background, the date 1240 H/1824 in small type in a reserve in the lower left-hand corner of the composition; the third, signed and dated 1879, several multidirectional lines of monumental text in reserves with gold foliage on a semiset of florets, signed Reza Gholam and dated 1297 H/1879 in small type in the lower left-hand corner. Calligraphy sizes: 19.5 x 13.8 cm, 28.4 x 16.2 cm, 27 x 16.8 cm; total sizes: 38.3 x 26 cm; 35.1 x 22 cm; 30 x 19.7 cm Reinforced tears, polychromy bleeds on the first, second calligraphy truncated with a few stains, a fold and the gilding faded in places, the third with stains, wear, a large fold, flaking.
