CHINA. Manuscript, [Notes sur l'histoire de la Chine, circa - Lot 437
CHINA. Manuscript, [Notes sur l'histoire de la Chine, circa 1830]; in-4 sewn notebook of [1]-75 pages, blue paper cover with mutilation.
Interesting manuscript on China, probably written by a French orientalist, giving a detailed chronology of China from the first emperor in 2914 BC to 450 AD.
It evokes the administrative divisions of the country into provinces, the attachment of vassal peoples to the empire, the struggle against the Tartars, wars between princes, transfers of the imperial court, changes of dynasty...
Between the chronologies of 127 and 121 [B.C.] is a Description of the Western Lands (1 p.); between 77 and 53 is a passage on the Tchen-yu, the Tartar king Hiong-nou, and between 400 and 420 [C.E.], a study of the Geou-yen Tartars. The final pages of the manuscript are largely devoted to English India, with dates of key events. A list of countries and localities, mostly in India or the Middle East, has been copied onto the first page.
