WAR OF 1870. 21 L.A.S. and 5 L.A. from Eulalie veuve Bourque - Lot 474
WAR OF 1870. 21 L.A.S. and 5 L.A. from Eulalie veuve Bourquelot, [Paris] December 5, 1870-July 22, 1871, to her son Gaston; 133 pages in-8.
Abundant and fascinating correspondence on the siege of Paris and the Commune.
The letters are filled with small, tight handwriting. The widow Bourquelot gives regular news to her son: she recounts her daily life in Paris, supply difficulties, bombardments and destruction, fighting at the gates of Paris, the Commune insurrection and fires... Alongside the regular correspondence, a series of 5 long letters form a relation of "events and details of the siege", followed by a diary from April 21 to May 13, 1871 (plus a diary page dated April 11). The letters are contained in the death announcement of Mme Bourquelot née Caillard, dated December 13, 1883.
