WAR OF 1870. 3 L.A.S. from political figures. Adolphe CRÉMIEUX (1796-1880). L.A.S., Paris June 15 (2 p. ¼ in-8 mourning). In favor of a prisoner: "Mercy and clemency are moreover so sweet to invoke!"... Ferdinand HÉROLD (1828-1882). L.A.S., Paris September 11, 1871, to a newspaper editor friend (2 p. in-8 mourning), sending an article on the reorganization of the magistracy: "You guessed right: two hours after my arrival at Place Beauvau, I was dealing with the indemnity of the national guard. Henri ROCHEFORT (1830-1913). L.A.S., June 23, 1880, to journalist Edmond Magnier (2 p. in-8, split), thanking him for "the charming article" he devoted to him. "It is just at the moment when I may (I say may) be returning to France that you are making me feel the sweetness of exile, for the sympathies I am receiving are out of all proportion to the suffering I have been able to endure"...
