Jeanne Le Roux de la Chapelle, Baroness TASCHER DE LA PAGERI - Lot 585
Jeanne Le Roux de la Chapelle, Baroness TASCHER DE LA PAGERIE (1754-1822) wife of the above. L.A.S., [in Vauclin, Martinique] March 12, 1804, to her son Henri (1785-1816, future General of the Empire); 4 pages in-4. She reproaches him for his silence, and expresses all her maternal love. "Mais non mon cher Lamour, cela ne suffit pas à un cœur à une mère telle que la tienne", for since her sons left to fight in France, she lives only in fear and anxiety, which only dissipate when she receives letters. "Then I breathe a little, I have a few days of rest, of illusion, I say to myself delightfully they breathe; they are happy, they think of me; they love me. And dear child, this hope is enough for me. Give it to me, my dear Henry". She thought of coming to France to see them and embrace them, but the idea of living in Paris frightened her. "Consequently, I ask for a thatched cottage eight or ten leagues from Paris on the Normandy side of the Seine, with accommodation convenient enough to spend even the winters there, and to receive all my dear nephews, nieces and children [...]. I ask for a chapel so that I can pray for you all at my ease and without leaving my home, except for the visit of gratitude, duty and friendship that I will make on my arrival in France to the First Consul, his family, my dear niece and his daughter"...
