BOLONIAN school circa 1590, entourage of Lavinia FONTANA The Mystical Marriage of Saint Catherine of Alexandria Canvas 147 x 111 cm (Old restorations) The delicacy of the drawing, the broad, domed foreheads, the interplay of hands and the richness of the finery bring our painting closer to compositions by Lavinia Fontana, notably La Sainte Conversation (in a private collection in Reggio Emilia, see the exhibition catalog, Lavinia Fontana, Bologna, Museo Civico Archeologico, 1994, fig. 14) and La Sainte Famille avec saint Jean Baptiste enfant (at the Pinacoteca d'Imola).
