Jacques Callot (c. 1592-1635) The Mysteries of the Passion, or Mysteries of the Life of Jesus. 1629-1631. Etching. Each leaf: 245 x 365. Binding 679-698. Reunion of 4 plates of several small-format oval or circular subjects, on laid paper, pasted by the edges on laid paper leaves, the margins of the engravings colored in yellow ink wash with framing fillets in pen. Subjects L. 685-690 cut and pasted together. Verso of one leaf, glued engraving (fragment of a copy of the Passage of the Red Sea). Joint: frontispiece by A. Bosse. Etching. Ens. 2 p. These small oval subjects were intended to be cut out and worn as brooches or pendants to protect against the plague.
