Marli Shamir (née Maria Roeder) (1919-2017) Four vintage silver prints: - Negev, Avdat. 24 x 18.5 cm - Capharnaum. 22.5 x 18 cm - Old stones. 19 x 18 cm - Bedouin in Sinai. 24 x 18 cm Bearing the artist's stamp. Two silver prints are enclosed: - Gate of the Ohel Moché district in Jerusalem. 25 x 17.5 cm - Bedouin woman and child. 29 x 21 cm One of the two bears her name on the reverse. Marli Shamir became interested in photography as a teenager. She attended the Contempora Lehrateliers photography class attached to the famous Bauhaus in Berlin, as well as a microphotography course in Copenhagen, before being forced to emigrate to Israel in 1938. She subsequently worked as a scientific photographer at the Weitzman Institute in Rehovot, before opening her own studio in 1945, where she focused on the city, urban life and architecture.
