FRENCH SCHOOL circa 1600: "Il garde le feu qu'il conçoit" (He guards the fire he conceives) Portrait of a Woman with High Collar and Gusseted Sleeves, in Profile to the Left Oil on copper, oval on view 4.3 x 3.7 cm In a gilded brass "portrait box" in the style of the 17th century, engraved with coats of arms under a marquis's crown, with three uprooted palm trees on the left for the husband, and a date "1507". The inside of the lid is painted in imitation of hard stones, surrounded by an attractive inscription in Latin: "quem conipit Ignem Servat": "he guards the fire he conceives" oval 5.9 x 4.5 cm (missing and restored; hinge to be refastened)
