Poësies de Charles d'Orléans, Père de Louis XII et Oncle de François Ier, Rois de France.
Grenoble: J. L. A. Giroud, 1803. - In-12, 170 x 96 : xvj, xxxij, 370 pp. Eggplant half calf, smooth spine decorated, speckled edges (period binding, spine rebound).
Largely original edition of the poems of Charles d'Orléans (1394-1465), dedicated to César-René-Marie François-Rodolphe de Briançon-Vachon-Belmont. It was published by Grenoble man of letters and journalist Pierre-Vincent Chalvet (1767-1807), based on the incomplete manuscript held by the Grenoble library.
This was the edition that officially brought Charles d'Orléans' poems into the realm of French literature. Only a few pieces had previously appeared in collective collections and almanacs.
A copy of the English barrister, judge and politician Sir James Lewis Knight-Bruce (1791-1866), with a bookplate bearing his initials JLKB.
Spine entirely rebound in imitation. Original boards preserved.
