Dark brown jansenist morocco, ribbed spine, framed in dark brown morocco inside, pink moiré silk lining and endpapers, double endpapers, gilt-edged head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved; and brown half morocco with wide bands, ribbed spine, gilt-edged head, untrimmed (for the suite volume), slipcase (Baudry). Edition illustrated with 15 original color etchings by Édouard CHIMOT (1880-1959), including 10 full-page. According to a note printed at the end of the book, this edition includes 29 epigrams translated here for the first time. Limited edition of 230 copies. This one, hors commerce, is one of the extra copies on Arches wove paper. It contains this autograph justification signed by Chimot: "exemplaire hors commerce // à mon amie Jacqueline Lévy Despas // avec mon affectueux souvenir // Chimot." The copy has been enriched in a separate volume with a black suite of etchings and 5 free plates in 4 or 5 states. The first of these free plates and its various states are duplicates. A fine copy.
