COURBOULEIX (Léon). - Lot 96
COURBOULEIX (Léon). The old port of Marseille. Scènes vécues. Paris: Éditions d'art de l'Intermédiaire du bibliophile, 1927. - In-folio, 380 x 280: 6 pp., (1 f.), 12 plates, illustrated cover. Dark blue half-maroquin with corners, gilt wavy fillets, smooth spine, untrimmed, first cover retained (modern binding). Rare edition, printed in only 100 copies, of this album of 12 beautiful color etchings by Léon COURBOULEIX, depicting a few moments in the daily life of the residents of Marseille's houses of pleasure. The work is prefaced by Clément-Janin. One of 85 copies on Rives vellum with the definitive state in color. Enriched with 13 unsigned aquatints and etchings by Courbouleix on the subject of prostitution, mounted on bluish paper, as trial proofs with occasional retouching in pencil or watercolor, one of which was used to illustrate the album, in a separate volume bound identically but in a smaller format. A fine copy, very well preserved.
