Salvador DALI (1904-1989). Autograph manuscript... - Lot 13 - Ader
Salvador DALI (1904-1989). Autograph manuscript signed, [1950]; 4pages in-4 with erasures and corrections; in French.
Important text presenting his Madonna de Port-Lligat, one of his most famous paintings, for exhibition at the Carstairs Gallery in New York (1950).
"Ma madona que enfin fini, va être expose pour la première fois au gran public, et la reponse à ma promesse que je lui havait fait aux dernières pages de ma vie secrete "incorpore l'expression surrealiste de ma vie a la grande tradition clasique de la peinture". Now the Dalinian simbols, which once seemed to superficial people the prototipe of larbitrary, have suddenly taken on the mhistic meaning they latently posed, for already Froid [Freud] himself called me a Fanatic". Dali then explains these symbols: "Le Pain obsesion Daliniene enigmatique devien un simbole ebluisan de l'ecaristi", the eggs symbolizing Ressurrection... He returns later to the "espirituelle significance" of his painting, and adds that Freud "was the first to discover in me a mhistic state of mind"...
We enclose 2 L.A.S. from Gala Eluard (who was to become Dali's wife), one with 3 autographed lines from DALI, and a postcard from Gala from Cadaquès.
