Shell and mother-of-pearl-decorated chest, Ottoman Empire, dated 1801 Small wooden chest with an elongated octagonal base resting on eight feet, closed by a hinged lid with a knob handle and a front lock, the inside of the lid lined with red velvet. The lid and sides of the box are decorated with mother-of-pearl and tortoiseshell marquetry in several registers of checkerboard, rhombus, chevron and diamond-point friezes, with a medallion with floral rosette in the center of the lid. Under the base, engraved date July 20, 1801 and initials "J.T". H. 15 cm; L. 27.5 cm; W. 17.6 cm Minor damage and accidents, minor restorations, key missing.
