Certainly in response to his client's request, Cappiello abandoned his skills as a poster artist, to draw a scene in the purest "modes et manières" style for which La Gazette du bon ton was the model. He succeeded perfectly. There's no background to make the characters stand out: here, the background is white. Four elegant bathers in bathing suits, their feet in the water, fight over a ball. It's graceful and lively. But to catch the eye, Cappiello draws a red parasol - and it becomes a poster.
