FÉNELON (François de Salignac de La Mothe).
The Adventures of Telemachus, son of Ulysses.
Dijon: de l'imprimerie de P. Causse, 1791. - 2 volumes in-8, red morocco, gilt roulette around the edges, smooth spine decorated, gilt edges (period binding).

An unusual provincial edition, remarkable from a typographical point of view, printed in Dijon by Pierre Causse (1761-1834) and printed in small numbers on wove paper.

It appeared unillustrated, but is sometimes supplemented with plates. This is the case in the present copy, whose first volume has been enriched with a frontispiece and 6 plates engraved by Le Mire, De Launay, Simonet, Saint-Aubin and Prévost after Charles-Nicolas Cochin fils, which are the reduction to in-8 format of the plates made for the unfinished edition published in Paris but addressed to Brussels in 1776 in in-4 format, completed in 1781.

A very fine copy in contemporary red morocco, with typical Directoire and Empire decor in the taste of Bozérian.
A few scattered brown spots, but a very well preserved and desirable copy.
