HEBREW BIBLE Hamisha Humshe Torah חמשה חומשי תורה [Pentateuch with the five Megiloth], Antwerp (Christophe Plantin, 1566). General title in xylographed architectural border. 148 ff. (foliotation in Hebrew). Ep. binding, In-4, antique dark morocco, double fillet to boards with fine fleurons, spine with caissons and fleurons, beige morocco title-piece, small lacks (Vinograd, Antwerp 7). Handwritten ex libris "Darbou". Sixteenth-century Hebrew Bible finely printed by Christophe Plantin, with a fine period binding. Plantin was, after Daniel Bomberg, the most outstanding Christian printer of Hebrew books in the 16th century. By 1576, he was operating 22 presses and was Northern Europe's leading printer-publisher. His greatest publishing success was the eight-volume "Antwerp Polyglot" (1568-72).
