Flavius Josephus, Opera Josephi Judaeorum Doctissimi ac disertissimi, quae ad nostram aetatem pervenerunt omnia, nimirum : De antiquitatibus Iudaicis...De bello iudaico...Contra Apionem.De imperio rationis, sive de Macchabaeis..., Frankfurt, Wolfgang Richter for Jean Feyerabend (in fine), 1599, I vol. in-8, 879 pp. (including engraved title), 26 ff. index n.c., fine printer's mark on spine of last f., contemporary full vellum binding, smooth spine inscribed "Flavius Josephus", red edges. The pages are surrounded by a typographical double fillet.
Handwritten ex libris of Constantin and J.F. Primelius (physicians) from 1785, of G. L. Ludt (1819), stamp of a religious house in Beaujeu.
Minor rodent bite to spine, minor wear to lower cover, slight crack to one of the head hinges, tiny worm holes to boards, small red stain to 2d board, minor worm work to bottom of a few leaves without affecting text, small marginal tear to p. 857 with loss of a few names inscribed in the margin thereof, otherwise a good copy in period condition.
The history of the Maccabees is given in Erasmus' version, with a preface by Erasmus.
The Bibliothèque Nationale has two editions also printed in Frankfurt by the same Feyerabend in 1580 and 1590, but does not know of this one.
