Basel, Jérôme Froben and Nicolas Episcopius, August 1539, in-8 of 494 ff. Contemporary binding, stamped sow skin, intact with its two clasps. Initials stamped PM on front board, headbands with figures of Venus and Lucretia. Handwritten bookplate Leonhardus Soërinus Colmariensis, 1586. (Repair to signed f. 2p7). Fourth and definitive edition of Munster's Hebrew Dictionary. Sebastian Munster (1488-1552) was originally a Franciscan, teaching in his order's convent in Heidelberg from 1521 to 1529, where he produced a Hebrew dictionary, a Hebrew grammar, an Aramaic grammar and various biblical translations. He left religious life in 1529 and began teaching in Basel, where he had his numerous works printed by the Froben family.
