Rare flag eagle model 1815. Gilt bronze, holding a spindle in one of its talons. Mounted on a casing with foliate decoration and a socket circa 1830. Dimensions: 38.5 x 22 cm A.B.E. (Re-gilded, spindle probably reassembled upside down when the box was added in 1830). First Empire period. Provenance: - Former collection of General Regnault - Private collection. Bibliography: - Général Jean Regnault "Les aigles impériales 1804-1815". Our eagle is reproduced in figure 56: "Aigle régimentaire modèle 1815. Dismantled from its caisson in 1815, this eagle was probably reassembled after 1830 in a National Guard caisson. It has been re-gilded and the thunderbolt reassembled upside down. - Pierre CHARRIE also refers to this eagle as an 1815 model: "Une aigle remontée sur un caisson de Garde nationale 1830. Ex-collection Regnault."
