ALBUM AMICORUM. Autograph album, 19th century; oblong volume, small in-4, bound in green chagrin, gilt and cold ornaments on boards, gilt edges (partly unstuck, a few loose leaves, several documents taped).
The album was begun by Camille Ambroisine Pinguet (1804-1878), wife of Edme Florentin Pinguet (1797-1865), a merchant in Le Havre; then continued by their daughter Marie-Camille (1827-1902), who married François Aubry (1817-1903), a shipowner in Le Havre, in 1851.
Verses and poetry by Alfred Asseline, Adolphe Boudelot, Alex. Bréard, Théophile Gautier (the poem Consolation, here untitled, 14 lines: "Ne sois pas affligé, si la foule, ô poëte"...), Victor Hugo (quatrain: "Oh! ne vous hâtez pas de mûrir vos pensées!"...), Charles Limet, Paul Meurice and Auguste Vacquerie (1845), maréchal Auguste Regnaud de Saint-Jean d'Angély (Légende de la rose de Jéricho)...
Autograph notes by Alexandre Dumas (with map drawn from Mainz to Frankfurt). Ingres signature.
Autographed letters signed (several addressed to Aug. Vacquerie) by P.J. de Béranger (to Odilon Barrot), Émile Deschamps, Amie Devienne, Jules Duflos, Dupin aîné, Alphonse Esquiros, général Fleury, Jules Gérard, César et Frédéric d'Houdetot, Alphonse Karr, Paul Lacroix, Pierre Lebrun, H. Lemonnier de Lafosse, Édouard Ourliac, Edgar Quinet, George Sand, H.D. Souaillard; and a facsimile of St Vincent de Paul.
