Louis MARCOUSSIS (1883-1941). L.A.S., [Paris May 31, 1933, to René Gaffé]; 1page in-4 at his address 61, Rue Caulaincourt. To Belgian bibliophile and collector René Gaffé concerning the illustration of a copy of Apollinaire's Alcools. There would be room in the copy "for 9 full-page watercolors". For the sum offered, he could "decorate 5 full pages and 5 blanks in the text", as well as a portrait of Apollinaire "in the style of my large drypoint, done in 1912". He adds that he can give more details about this book, which he "loves above all others, if not for its spirit, which is too heterogeneous, since Alcools is a collection of poems written over a period of fifteen years, then at least for its presentation, which I attended - having even seen Apollinaire cross out the punctuation marks and restore them 24 hours later, only to cross them out again". He also had the good fortune to be the first reader of the poem Zone, "when Alcools was still called Eau-de-Vie"...
