CORSICA. P.S. by Repain, Toulon 2 frimaire VII (22 novembre 1798); 3 pages in-fol. List of drugs and medicines to be sent to Corsica. This list contains nearly 60 drugs and medicines to be sent to Corsica by the ship Le Patriote, commanded by Captain Barbarin. They are divided into three boxes numbered 5, 6 and 33, containing products such as syrups, spirits, essential oils, extracts, ointments, roots, tinctures, etc. Packaging (bottles, flasks, jars) is sometimes mentioned, and quantities are given in pounds and ounces. We note in particular: crayfish eyes, property elixir, buckthorn syrup, wormwood syrup, juniper essential oil, cinnabar, orpiment, vitriolic tartar, jalap resin, diaphoretic antimony, André de la Croix plaster, gayac resin, hemlock plaster, basilicum ointment, fumitory extract, chicory extract, cynoglossus pills, prepared deer horn, cinnamon tincture, madder root, Florence iris, Angelica root... At the end were added, by another hand, a few miscellaneous products: bottles, blankets, reams of paper, and so on. Several ships bore the name Patriote; this could be the vessel built in Brest in 1784 and commissioned in 1786, the year it took part in a naval review at Cherbourg in the presence of Louis XVI. In 1793, she repatriated sailors suspected of counter-revolutionary sympathies from Toulon to Brest, following the capture of Toulon by the English. In 1796-1797, he took part in the Irish expedition. Retired in 1821, she was transformed into a pontoon at Rochefort, then demolished in 1832 (Roche, Dictionnaire des bâtiments de la flotte de guerre française, I, p. 343).
