Félix BUHOT (1847-1898) Winter in Paris, or Snow in Paris, 1879 Etching, drypoint and soft varnish. Sight: 26 x 36 cm. Bourcard, Goodfriend 128. Very fine proof on japon or thin vellum, loaded with barbs, from the 4th state (of 5), according to Bourcard or from the 6th (of 9), according to Goodfriend, before erasure of the three dogs in the foreground, with the sweepers, male and female, in place of the sweeper from behind, before the words L'Art, before the artist's monogram and number 25, and before the title in small capitals "L'Hiver de 1879 à Paris" ("Winter of 1879 in Paris"), augmented by a 12 mm thin vellum strip joined at the foot, bearing the following engraved texts: - left, on two lines: Felix Buhot pinx et aq-forti / Etat tire a [ ] epreuves - in the center, on either side of a small cartel containing a sketch of a coachman leading his carriage, the words Paris sous la neige / croquis d'après nature / au Quartier Breda - on the right, on two lines: se Trouve à Paris chez l'Auteur / Rue de Breda 15 [sketch of a carriage] proche la Station de fiacres. Annotation in pen and ink in the tablet: "Epr. d'artiste Imp. par l'auteur" and artist's signature. Several small breaks or fractures in the margins, bordering on matting. Margins.
