Les Maîtres de l'affiche. Monthly publication, containing reproductions of the finest illustrated posters by leading French and foreign artists. Chaix, Paris, December 1895 - November 1900, 5. vol. in-folio, publisher's green and lemon percaline bindings illustrated with a composition by Paul Berthon, 40 x 31.5 cm each. Very good condition, despite minor edgewear. According to Victor Arwas, the binding was printed in 5 colors using metalic inks. A veritable Pantheon of fin-de-siècle poster art, edited by Chaix, which explains why a quarter of the plates are by Chéret, with prefaces by Roger Marx (1853-1913), Inspector General at the Ministry of Fine Arts and a great campaigner for social art. Les Maîtres de l'affiche was published in monthly issues, with supplements for subscribers. The collection, in Berthon bindings, is the nec plus ultra.
