CATINÉE (Germain). Virginal Essence of Beauty. [With]: DUBOST. Essence royale de Beauté. Paris : Bureau des Affiches, May 5, 1773 and January 28, 1778. - Two booklets in-4, 238 x 176 : pp. 69-72 ; pp. 13-16. Ultramarine blue half-maroquin with wide corners, smooth spine, gilt title throughout, gilt head (first half 20th century binding). Reunion of two advertisements for beauty products, part of two issues of the journal Affiches, annonces, et avis divers, dated March 5, 1773 and January 28, 1778. In addition to these two articles, these brochures present goods and charges for sale, new books and miscellaneous notices. The enthusiast who had these few sheets bound in luxury had noted two advertisements for Essence de Beauté by the Parisian perfumer and distiller Germain Catinée and his associate Dubost. "L'Essence virginale de Beauté [...] has been so perfected by his care since our first advertisement, that one could shave without water. The King's Valets-de-Chambre Barbiers have judged it preferable, it is said, to all types of soap. Spines slightly darkened. Tear at center fold of first leaf of first issue.
