[COIFFURES]. [Collection of hairstyles]. S.l., [circa 1780]. - In-24, 100 x 63 : 12 plates. Long-grained red morocco, fine fleur-de-lys garland and gilt roulette framing the boards, smooth mute spine (period binding). Collection of 12 hand-colored intaglio vignettes of women's headdresses, typical of engravings for small almanacs at the end of the Ancien Régime. The names of the hairstyles are imbued with an old-fashioned, evocative charm: à l'aigrette parasol, à la Flore, à la Cérès, à la Persane, à l'Angélique, à la Circassienne, à la Triomphale, à la Zéphÿre, à la Sylphide... The figures are very similar to those in a rare Parisian almanac entitled Le Manuel des toilettes, published by Valade in 1777. A delightful copy, finely bound in the period. Tear without missing, skilfully restored to the first plate.
