The work, "containing all that concerns the head of the French, with research on the use of artificial hair among the Ancients", is in fact a history of wigs and beards, written in the tradition of Abbé Thiers' work. It is divided into 6 parts: Des Cheveux des français. - De la Barbe des Français. - Recherches sur les Chevelures artificielles des Anciens. - Histoire des Perruques. The last two parts contain the supporting documents and an important short Observation on the Abrégé Chronologique de l'Histoire de France, by M. Hénaut. A copy in modern binding, with elements of the original binding brought back, including the super-libris in the name of "Le Touzé" which was gilded on the first cover. The old counter-guard also features the stencilled bookplate of Claude Fachot (1754-1814), librarian in Nancy, as well as the heraldic bookplate of Octave Grandjean d'Alteville (1820-1861), a bibliophile from Lorraine who notably owned a rich collection of works on venery. Scattered brown spots. Provenance: Le Touzé, with super-libris. - Claude Fachot, with stencilled bookplate. - Octave Grandjean d'Alteville, with bookplate. The second edition of the same text is enclosed: - MOLÉ (Guillaume). Histoire des modes françaises, ou Révolutions du costume en France, Depuis l'établissement de la Monarchie jusqu'à nos jours. Two epidermoles on the boards, restoration to a spine, small worm work at the foot, band of sunstain on the second board. The table leaf has been placed after leaf I7, at the end of the first part.
