Paris : Cartier, 1947. - 2 pamphlets in-4, 290 x 240: 45 pp, (5 ff. first and last 2 blank), printed cover: 23 pp, (4 ff. last 2 blank), 1 plate, embossed cover. In sheets, filled cover for the first volume, and beige cloth boards, covered with a cream dust jacket embossed with the number CC on the first cover, for the second volume, in a common red cloth slipcase. Edition of 1,500 numbered copies, published by Cartier to mark its centenary. L'Éloge des Pierreries is illustrated with an original lithograph by André DERAIN (1880-1954) as frontispiece, and the other volume includes a very fine original hors-texte specially handmade on Auvergne pur chiffon, depicting an emerald & brilliant necklace. NOMINATIVE COPY, SPECIALLY PRINTED FOR GENERAL DE GAULLE. Héron de Villefosse's platelet is one of 20 nominative head copies on vélin pur chiffon du Marais. The second platelet is a unique edition of 1,500 copies on vélin crèvecœur du Marais, here numbered 13. A presentation card is included. Slight soiling to the covers, small tear to the cover of the second booklet and to the back of the slipcase. Non-missing tear to back cover of first booklet. Provenance: Charles de Gaulle.
